The Indian leadership has been very cunningly trying to keep India on the right side of Moscow while flirting with Washington too. This is exactly what the first prime minister of India Jawahar Lal Nehru did between 1947 up till the time he breathed his last. Since then the successive Indian governments followed that policy more or less. The present prime minister of India initially showed a leaning towards the US which grated on Putin. In order to strike a proper balance he is now entering into arms deals with Russia too in order to keep it also in good humour. On the contrary our shortsighted leadership has been placing all its eggs in one basket by its blind allegiance to the Yankees_____a policy which has caused us more harm than good. Isn’t it about time we too mended our fences with Moscow ?Not only is there a dire need of winning over the heart and mind of the Kremlin leadership, abundant caution be observed in relations with Beijing too as our enemies would go the whole hog to sow seeds of misunderstanding in Chinese leadership against Pakistan. We cannot afford to lose China no matter how great a price we might have to pay for keeping it on our right side.
The politicians who have been rejected at the hustings in this year’s general elections are under the illusion that the masses will take to the streets should they make them a call to do so on any issue . Nawaz Sharif went to the prison. No body came out to protest against his jail term. Shahbaz Sharif too was gaoled and nobody came to the streets. The people now want that a fair chance be given to the newcomers in the corridors of power and they are not in a hurry to jump the gun . The earlier the Opposition comes to terms with this ground reality the better. The corruption cases registered against some of the Opposition leaders ought to be fought by them in the courts of law rather than on the streets.
