The ministers-in-waiting are the quickest learners. The transformation from ‘commons’ to ‘lords’ comes at a mind-boggling speed.
To be a minister is no ordinary thing. In a population of 220 millions there are likely to be around 220 ministers. The ratio of ministerhood therefore roughly is one to one million. And to be ONE among a whole million is no mean thing. You have to stand out. And to stand out you have to cultivate ministerial mannerisms.
I have not seen many exceptions. Some exceptions I remember are Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahie, Javed Jabbar, Chaudhry Eitzaz Ahsan, Mailk Mairaj Khalid, Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi and Mushahid Hussain.
In the recent days I have witnessed an amazing number of non-ministers turning ministers from scalps to toes, overnight.
Faisal Wada, Shaharyar Afridi and Ali Zaidi are some glaring examples.
No wonder Imran Khan’s PTI was trounced in Lahore. His ministers were busy cultivating ministerial looks.
