The opposition should not jump the gun. It would be unfair and premature on the part of the opposition to sit in judgement over the performance of Imran Khan so early in the day. The NAB ought to improve its prosecution branch as most of its cases have been failing in the courts owing to their half-hearted and weak prosecution by its Prosecution staff thus leaving the courts with no option but to give the accused the benefit of the doubt and set them free. This lapse on the part of the Prosecution is providing an opportunity to the politicians accused in corruption cases to embarrass the government by saying that they were falsely implicated in them. Moreover, the NAB has been moving at a snail ‘s pace in these cases. Decision on all corruption cases need to be expedited . Justice delayed is justice denied.
Many politicians who had indulged in corruption while they were in power are now reading the writing on the wall. They know in their heart of hearts that their number is also up and sooner or later they too might find themselves behind the bars. It is this fear that has brought them closer to one another. Those PPP leaders who have soiled their reputation by indulging in corruption to become rich in double quick time are apprehensive that they might be arrested by the NAB so they have joined hands with Nawaz League in order to blackmail the ruling party politically.
Imran Khan is right when he says that his predecessors have left him with an empty coffer along with a baggage of hefty foreign loans which would multiply if his government didn’t make an increase in some taxes in order to repay these loans through instalments. The PTI chairman should, however, tax the filthy rich and doesn’t further burden the teeming millions of poor persons of the country who are in dire financial straits.
