For the consumption of the people of Pakistan in particular and the world in general, it is fine to keep stating that Pakistan is the only country on the map that came into being on the basis of Islamic identity and for practicing Islam in our individual, social and political lives. Infact to make a forceful assertion of this statement our constitution’s preamble clearly declares that all laws in the country will be in complete conformity with the laws of God as outlined in the Holy Quran.
Our actual constitution however is conspicuous by the absence of Quran’s fundamental laws of crime and punishment. Besides that, the Constitution fails to create conditions of One Nationhood—a concept which the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in his historical Hajj Sermon made the culminating statement of his Message.
“From today Islam is made your Deen— your way of life and you are made one Umma.”
Even though Pakistan is named Islamic Republic in the Constitution, a single viewing of our TV channels will be enough to make a mockery of the stated identity of Pakistan. Not only that the points of difference between a decent Muslim appearance and an appearance of whores and harlots trading their beauty and charms have been abolished, but also a culture of ‘permissiveness’ is being publicised and promoted.
This is a very long subject and I have been drawn into it unintentionally. What I wanted to state was that the only way to confront and defeat the rogue clergies who have made Islam a commodity of merchandize is to let Islam find its way into our constitution.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has been talking about the State of Madina since long. The point for him to ponder upon is that the state of Madina had no Opposition. It was a one-party state-the state of the Party of Mohammad (PBUH). It’s parallel in modern history is China, where only one political party functions—the Communist Party.
It will be an interesting exercise to make comparison between the one-party China and the plural West. Where have the trumpets of progress blown with greater ferocity and noise?
