GUJRANWALA, February 26: Preparations for Wazirabad’s NA-101 by-election have begun as polling is scheduled to be held on March 22.
The seat was vacated after Justice (r) Iftikhar Cheema was tried in the Supreme Court (SC) for concealing his assets. However, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has once again nominated Cheema as its candidate.
He is contesting against Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Ijaz Cheema and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Hamid Nasir Chatha’s son Muhammad Ahmed Chatha.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has formed at least 262 polling stations and 787 polling booths. Number of registered voters in the constituency is 3.52 lacs. More than 2,000 government employees have been assigned duties at different polling stations.
Majid Hussain Dogar has been appointed as Returning Officer (RO) by the commission.-Sabah
