Little or no progress seems to have been made regarding recovery of the looted national money stacked in the western banks by the corrupt and on this count the common man is naturally very much upset as he had voted the present rulers into power by taking them on their word that on coming to power the first thing they would do is to bring back to the country all the ill-gotten money deposited in the foreign banks by the corrupt element. . Granted that the new rulers have hitherto been laying emphasis on getting monetary aid from some friendly countries and they might not have found enough time to concentrate on the recovery of ill-gotten money of some politicians and bureaucrats but now time has come when they should come down with a heavy hand on them. In the same manner, the sprawling built -up and landed property of the elite located inside the country has also escaped the attention of the rulers up till now. Why is the elite class not being touched is also causing great anguish among those people of the country who had expected the government will tax the filthy rich heavily.
The common man is also not happy over the kid-glove treatment meted out by the government to those hooligans who ransacked government and private property recently in the agitation against the Supreme Court verdict in Aasia case. The faces of the miscreants can easily be identified in the footage. The proper course was that they should have been made to pay through their nose the cost of property damaged by them in the riots . Moreover, those religious bigwigs should have been arrested and tried under the relevant law of the land who tried to incite rebellion about which the PM had also mentioned in his address to the nation too just before his departure to China.
A stich in time saves nine but that opportunity was missed and instead an extremely weak action was taken against them which has certainly emboldened them. They are likely to blackmail the rulers in future with more venom. Make no mistake.
