A majority of people of this country had not appreciated the initial kid-glove treatment of the government with those religious bigwigs of the country who had used unwarranted remarks against the functionaries of the state organs and resorted to sit-ins in the country when the apex court gave its verdict in the alleged blasphemy case against one Aasia.
By coming down with a heavy hand now on the ring leaders of those sit-ins a couple of days back when they were again trying to foment trouble on the government roads, the government has,to a large extent, made amends to its earlier pussilimanious attitude in the matter. That there was no public outcry on the government crackdown on the workers of a religious party which has become too big for its boots, lately ,speaks volumes for the fact that the common man does not approve of its policy of sit-ins on the drop of the hat as that creates a lot of public inconvenience.
It is understood that the errant leaders of the said religious party have been booked only under the Maintenance of public order ordinance for a couple of days only. The offence committed by the leaders of his party is much bigger . They need to be booked and tried by a special court under charges of sedition as their utterances amounted to creating a rift in the armed forces. If they were let off the hook after 90 days it will send a wrong signal to them as well as to those of their followers who are waiting in the wings and who might construe this as a weakness of the state.
