Fencing of Durand Line, a good idea

It is heartening to note that over 800 square kilometres of Durand Line has been fenced by the Pak Army and as many as 233 forts stand constructed on it. It is expected that by this month next year the entire Durand Line will have been fenced. Had this border line been fenced soon after the creation of this country in 1947, there would have been a different story to tell today. The open Pak Afghan border was fully exploited by the enemies of this country by infiltrating its agents into Pakistan through it for carrying out subversive activities in this country. Umpteen consulates have been opened up by India in Afghanistan ostensibly for commercial purposes but under their guise spying and subversive activities inside Pakistan are planned and executed.
It is quite understandable as to why both India and the US don’t look with an approving eye on the fencing of Durand Line. These days India has been playing second fiddle to Washington. India has been using the soil of Afghanistan and the adjacent tribal belt formerly billed as the FATA for fomenting trouble in Pakistan through its paid agents taking benefit of hitherto open borders. The American CIA feels that a check and balance on the Durand line is going to create obstacles in their way and make their task difficult also as they too have a big stake in this region. Small wonder the Afghan troops have been opening fire on those who are engaged in the fencing work on the Durand Line.
Granted that the same tribes live on both sides of the Durand Line. Granted that the Afghanis have to come to Pakistan for trade activities and for getting medical treatment. Nobody prevents them from coming to this country on humanitarian grounds but a proper passport and visa system should govern their traffic as this is the only way to effectively control the hostile element out to carry out blasts in Pakistan and destabilise it.
