KARACHI, January 11: Sindh Additional Inspector-General Amir Shaikh claimed on Friday that Indian spy agency, RAW, sponsored the November attack on the Chinese consulate in Karachi.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi, Shaikh said the attack was executed by members of the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) with support from the Indian intelligence agency. “The attack was planned in Afghanistan. There have been reports that the mastermind, Aslam alia Achu, was killed in Kandahar, but we cannot believe it unless we see a body or other evidence,” he said.
Sharing details of the investigation, Shaikh said multiple raids were conducted in various parts of Balochistan and Sindh.
He said five facilitators were arrested from Karachi, Hub and Quetta, while several other suspects were set free after interrogation.
“The weapons used in the attack were brought to Karachi from Balochistan on a train, and were hidden at a house in Baldia Town.”
Shaikh said Aslam alias Achu’s relatives were also among the attackers, identifying a man named Bashir Zeb as the person who acted as the group’s leader.
“The suspect had been making trips to Karachi for the past four to five months. These terrorists had planned more attacks with Indian support.”
On November 23, security forces staved off a brazen attempt by BLA terrorists to storm the Chinese consulate located in the upscale Clifton neighbourhood of Karachi.
Four people – including two police officials – were martyred before all the three terrorists were taken down by security forces. The diplomatic staff inside the consulate remained unhurt.-Agencies
