ISLAMABAD, January 23: Following the demands of the opposition parties, the federal government on Wednesday expressed willingness to form a judicial commission for investigation into Sahiwal tragedy.
According to sources, Prime Minister Imran Khan presided over a meeting of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) parliamentary party meeting, and the meeting expressed the willingness to form judicial commission over Sahiwal tragedy.
Speaking on the occasion, the prime minister said that the government was ready to constitute a judicial commission on opposition’s demands to probe into the Sahiwal incident.
Imran Khan said that the opposition can give names for the judicial commission’s members.
The premier further said that no leniency to police officers and personnel would be tolerated.
Earlier, PM Imran Khan directed to put forward suggestions for the reforms in Punjab police department after Sahiwal incident.
Joint Investigation Team’s (JIT) report declaring Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) responsible for the mishap has been presented to the premier.
The report also stated that several officials including department’s head have been changed. – Agencies
