- Meets CM Punjab, mulls over Judicial Commission for Sahiwal killings

LAHORE, Februay 3: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday while taking notice of hike in gas bills, has directed Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Ghulam Sarwar Khan to conduct an inquiry into the matter.
He directed the minister for petroleum to conduct immediate inquiry into the overbilling. The prime minister said that putting extra burden of gas prices on the masses was unjustified.
Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan held separate meetings with Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar and Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar in Lahore to analyse the Joint Investigation Team’s (JIT) proceedings in the Sahiwal tragedy, police reforms and other issues pertaining to politics and developments in Punjab.
Reportedly, upon his arrival in the city, CM Buzdar received him at the CM Secretariat where he chaired a high-level meeting. Moreover, he has reviewed effective measures to improve governance in the province including police reforms.
Importantly, the PM has pledged for legislation regarding establishment of water authority for the supply of clean drinking water to the general public.
Prime Minister Imran Khan met on Sundaywith Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar and asked him to look into the formation of a judicial commission on Sahiwal incident, which took lives of four people.
On January 19, four people – including three members of the Khalil family – were killed in an alleged encounter in Sahiwal. Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel said they had killed a local commander of militant organisation Daesh and three others in the operation.
While speaking to Usman Buzdar during his visit to Lahore, the prime minister said that the appeal of the Khalil family should be heeded and action should be taken accordingly. Upon the direction of PM Imran, the chief minister will meet the affected families of the Sahiwal tragedy. Prime Minister Imran Khan arrived in Lahore earlier on Sunday on a day-long visit and is set to chair a meeting of the Punjab cabinet.He will also meet members of the Punjab media committee.
Earlier, the premier had vowed reforms in Punjab police after the Sahiwal incident. In a Twitter post, PM Imran wrote he would not only ensure the guilty are given exemplary punishment but also “review the entire structure of Punjab police and start process of reforming it.” “I assure the nation that not only will the guilty be given exemplary punishment but I will review the entire structure of Punjab police and start process of reforming it,” he had tweeted.-DNA/Agencies
