JAKARTA: Indonesia planned to send 8 athletes to vie in International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Cup championship slated for February 20 to 25 in Fuzhou, China, an official at Indonesia weightlifting association (PABBSI) said here on Wednesday.
Four of Indonesian athletes designated to vie in Fuzhou are the ones contending in 2019 EGAD’s Cup International Weightlifting Championship scheduled in Thailand’s Chiang Mai from February 7 to 10, Thailand, PABBSI head coach Dirdja Wihardja said here.
The other four athletes assigned to Fuzhou are the country’s top athletes Eko Yuli Irawan, Surahmat, Syarah Anggraini, and a hopeful young female athlete Diah Ayu Permatasari.
Eko Yuli Irawan was gold medalists in 2018 World Championship held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan and 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia. The Indonesian seasoned weightlifting athlete also won gold medals in Asia and Southeast Asian championships in the last several years.
Meanwhile, Diah Ayu Anggraini is a bright talent in national weightlifting sports as she won national championship last year.
“She is new, we continue to monitor her training sessions,” Dirdja said.
Besides aiming the championship titles in their respective classes, Dirdja said that all Indonesian athletes intended to collect the points that qualify them to vie in 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Xinhua
