US airstrikes in Afghanistan’s districe Sangin of Helmand province on Thursday that killed 19 civilians mostly women and children. Sangin is a district in the east of Helmand Province, Afghanistan. Its population was reported at 58,100 in 2012, all of which belong to Pashtun ethnic group. Originally under the British military’s responsibility, Sangin saw more than one hundred British soldiers and Royal Marines killed in action between 2006 and 2010. When the U.S. Marines took responsibility for the area in 2010, they engaged in a bloody two-year fight to push the Taliban out. In August 2018, the Taliban had forced the occupation force and Afghan National Army to withdraw, and now control the area. Unfortunately, the head honchos of PTM and liberals in Pakistan have not paid any attention to the massacre of Pashtuns and Afghans, especially when most of the massacred civilians were women and children.
Media and human rights organizations and even Pashtun leaders of Afghanistan and Pakistan are silent on the killings of Pashtun brethren or downplaying it as a collateral damage. Where are the liberals of Pakistan; why are they mum and why have they not condemned the trio of CIA, RAW and NDS for perpetuating this tragedy? Where are the local and international champions of Human Rights who would blame Pakistan on drop of a hat? Are the innocent kids of Sangin district children of lesser God? Was it a deliberate plan to scuttle the Afghan peace process, where blood of innocent children was shed to incite Afghan people and ensure that the Taliban do not sit on the negotiating table? If the US is sincere in meaningful negotiations, it should rein in Afghan government and Afghan forces; otherwise the Taliban would find justification in stopping the negotiations.
In case of death of Arman Loni in Balochistan, PTM and their supporters had made a lot of hue and cry, accusing police of targeting him. Police Surgeon Dr. Ayesha Faiz and Medical Superintendent of the Civil Hospital Dr. Saleem Abro rejected the perception that the death of Arman Loni was caused by police torture, and that during the post-mortem examination no torture mark was found on the body. However, they said, samples of brain, heart and some other parts of the body had been sent to the Forensic Laboratory, Lahore, to determine the cause of Arman Loni’s death. According to Loralai police, they came to the venue of the sit-in on the tip-off about the presence of a wanted man there; however, some participants of the sit-in offered resistance to the police, which led to a scuffle during which Arman Loni died of heart attack.
But their campaigns are supported by international media outlets like VOA, BBC, Radio Mashaal and Radio Free Europe and Deewa TV. Indian and Afghan media are actively projecting PTM, and welcome accorded to Mohsin Dawar during his recent visit to the US speaks volumes about their gang up. There is no doubt that PTM has a foreign sponsored agenda. Earlier, ANP had been a staunch supporter of the PTM, but it suspended the membership of two dissidents for rendering support to PTM, fearing that if PTM became champions for the cause of Pashtuns, it would make ANP irrelevant. Of course, PTM has lost steam after FATA’s merger with KP; yet Pakistan government needs to check these unhealthy trends set by the PTM and help build the old FATA into an area of opportunity. Of course, there is need to identify foreign linkages and sponsors of PTM and take legal action against it.
PTM is drawing a lot of flak and is condemned for its vile acts. Malik Matorakay, the man who exposed Pashtun Tahafuz Movement’s (PTM) propaganda, was killed in North Waziristan after giving statement in favor of Pakistan’s security forces. He was shot dead at his home. PTM had criticized Matorkay and provoked his nephew, Shariatullah, to give statements against the security forces. Matorkay had rejected Shariatullah’s remarks as well. It is pertinent here to mention that Shariatullah’s own father had verified that his son was a terrorist. Matorkay had given the statement that security forces had not harassed the family members of Shariatullah as was being portrayed by the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM). PTM’s Noor Alam had managed a statement against security forces through the teenage boy Hayat Khan whose elder brother Shariatullah was involved in terrorism. Malik Matorakay’s brother said on Monday that Manzoor Pashteen, Mohsin Dawar and others are responsible for killing his brother.
