PESHAWAR, March 1: The Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak has said that sports nourish the qualities of leadership, tolerance and team spirit in youth and help in promoting a healthy society. This he said while speaking as Chief Guest at All Pakistan Inter-Universities Athletics Championship both Men and Women, arranged by the University of Peshawar under the directives of Higher Education Commission at Qayum stadium, Peshawar Tuesday.
Athletes from 36 universities of the country are participating in the three day event. The Chief Minister formally inaugurated the championship. The Chief Minister said that Sports and other physical activities provide recreation, enjoyment and promote sense of purposeful competition which lead to establish a conducive academic environment. Citing the saying “a healthy mind resides in a healthy body”, the Chief Minister added that academics and sports complement by nurturing and grooming the overall personality of an individual. The Chief Minister said that Sports enable the youngsters to bear defeat with a smile and maintain humility after victory. The Chief Guest said that sports inculcate a spirit of competition and enable the youth to face all kinds of situations, adding that the sportspersons always fight well and never lose their heart and courage. The Chief Minister cited that nations that keep their sports grounds filled, maintain empty hospitals and prisons. Referring to the importance of sports in the current era he said that now sportspersons could also become celebrities and very successful in life. -PR
