Linking Indo-Pakistan tension today with India’s general election is a self-deception of the highest order. Election or no election, Pakistan was born with this legacy of hatred Hindus have felt for Muslims for over a thousand years. This hatred was unmistakably evident in the speech the liberal and secular Prime Minister of India— Indra Gandhi had delivered on the 13th of December 1971 in a public meeting.
“Dwellers of Bharat! This day one of the daughters of Mother India has avenged the ignominies of a thousand years.”
Three days later, on the 16th of December 1971, Pakistan army had been made to lay down arms and surrender.
There is little to choose between Indra and Modi. Their brands are different. But their genetic chemistry of mind is the same. In a recent interview to a British channel, Imran Khan, Pakistan’s Prime Minister had said that Kashmir is the only cause of Indo-Pak tension. No sir, Kashmir is only a product of that cause. Hindus, whether of one brand, or the other, have never in their minds accepted the creation of Pakistan. Their hatred for Muslims is inbuilt in their mindset. Quaid-i-Azam summed up our relationship in a superb way.
“They worship cows. We slaughter and eat them. We can’t live in peace.”
All this sounds scary. But there is no avoidance truth. Over seven decades have gone by after the creation of Pakistan. Seven more decades from now, India’s leaders will still be frantically spreading the fires of hatred against Muslims and Pakistan to win elections and please their gods.
