No one understands better than the experienced opposition leaders of this country that the months between April and September aren’t ideal enough to launch a public agitation against the ruling government and bring the people on the roads. Scorching sun prevents the common man from taking to the street during these months. This year the holy month of Ramadhan, two Eids as well as month of Moharram also fall in this period. These facts must be weighing heavily on the mind of those opposition leaders who intend to take on the PTI.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman has been in close contact with both Zardari and Nawaz Sharif during the past couple of weeks . While both of them did agree to the need of unity among the opposition against the government of the PTI they still hold different views as to the timings of the political movement against it. Both of them are politically shrewd enough to realise that if they took to the streets right now when they are facing a number of mega corruption cases against them their movement might boomerang as the common man is most likely going to buy the argument of the PTI that they have united against its government in order to blackmail it and save their skin. Insiders say they might wait till the announcement of federal budget in coming June. They are banking on the possible public unrest likely to be generated by the price hike in essential commodities as a result of the coming annual budget. By September the weather too will have taken a turn for the better.
The triumvirate of Zardari, Nawaz Sharif and Maulana Fazlur Rehman is likely to lead the united opposition front in the days to come.
