QadriFuneralISLAMABAD, March 1: The funeral prayer of Mumtaz Qadri the killer of former Punjab Governor Salman Taseer was offered on Tuesday in Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi, while funeral prayers in absentia were also offered throughout the country.
Hundereds of thousand people from all over the country participated in the funeral prayer and they were chanting Allah Akbar slogans while holding the play cards, banners with Mumtaz Qadri’s pictures.
Mufti Muneebur Rehman, Ameer Jamat-e-Islami Sirajul Haq, Naib Ameer JI Mian Muhammad Aslam, JI Islamabad Ameer Zubair Farooq Khan and other prominent scholars attended the funeral prayer lead by prominent religious figure Peer Syed Hussainudin Shah. After the funeral the dead body of Mumtaz Qadri was brought to Bhara Kahu area for burial on an Ambulance. The stern security measures were taken to tackle any unwanted incident and aerial surveillance remained continued. Thousands of police and Rangers have been deployed along the route of the funeral procession and in the nearby capital, Islamabad. All the educational institutions including universities and colleges remained closed in twin cities. Traders also shut their shops as protest. According to the foreign media reports police have arrested several people coming from other cities to attend funeral prayer. The Red Zone of Islamabad remained sealed with tankers placed on entry points.-Sabah
