ISLAMABAD, June 1: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan defended on Saturday the recent hike in prices of petroleum products saying the looters of national kitty were shedding crocodile tears over hike in petroleum prices.
She said the government has thus far given Rs60 billion subsidies to offset the effect of rising fuel prices in the international market.
She said opposition was doing dirty politics to agitate public against government. She added that the corruption eleven was playing with the sentiments of people to get a clean chit for their crimes.
Awan said “missing” Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif’s statement from London is no less than a mockery. While they amassed wealth, the nation and economy suffered losses, she added.
About opposition s role over the issue of references, the special assistant said the parliamentarians were bound to uphold the secrecy
of important official documents and advised opposition to avoid point scoring on sensitive issues.
Earlier in a tweet on Saturday, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information Firdous Ashiq Awan said PTI has always been at the forefront in the struggle for ensuring independence of judiciary and rule of law in the country.
She said PML-N respects institutions and law on the basis of requirement. The Special Assistant said the PML-N workers assault on the Supreme Court building is the blackest and most disgraceful incident of the history.
She said the PML-N leadership s campaign titled “Mujhe Kion Nikala” aimed at maligning the judiciary is still fresh in the minds of people. She said PML-N is trying to befool people.
Earlier today, Opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehbaz lashed out at the ruling PTI over the recent hike in prices of petroleum products and termed it enmity with the public.
The PML-N leader in a statement condemned the government’s move to push up fuel prices saying it instead of providing relief to the masses on the occasion of Eidul Fitr deprived them of their joys.
“It is evident from the hike that economic terrorism has been imposed on the country,” he claimed, adding the people have been deceived in the name of relief, which is being exposed.
Hamza said the recent hike in fuel prices will add to a tsunami of inflation.
The government on Friday increased petroleum products prices for the month of June 2019.
According to notification issued, petrol price has been increased by Rs4.26 per litre, whereas the price of High Speed Diesel increased by Rs4.50.
The prices of kerosene oil and light diesel oil has also been increased by Rs1.69 and Rs1.68 respectively.
The new price of petrol will be 112.68 with an increase of 4.26 rupees per litre; the price of High Speed Diesel will be 126.82 with an increase of 4.50 rupees per litre.
Similarly, the Kerosene oil will be sold out at 98.46 with an increase of 1.69 rupees per litre while, the new price of Light Diesel Oil will be 88.62 with an increase of 1.68 rupees per litre. The new prices shall be applicable from 1st to 30th June this year. – Agencies
