The interior ministry has taken a very long time in revisiting its visa and immigration policy in respect of Afghanistan’s nationals . By now it should have implemented a strict visa and passport regimen about the visitors to Pakistan from Afghanistan. It is about time we said goodbye to the no-holds barred ,free-for-all entry into this country by the Afghanis . Granted that inter-marriages have taken place between the residents of Pakistan and Afghanistan which necessitates regular visits on their part to this country. It is also true that many Afghans visit this country for availing medical facilities which are non-existent in their country. Nobody grudge their visits on this score but what is important is that their visit to this country needs to be regulated through a fool-proof passport and visa regimen. This is the only way through which we can ensure to a great extent penetration of the terrorists from Afghanistan for carrying out subversive activities in this country.
The Army on its part has been doing excellent job by fencing the Afghan border line both in the former FATA and Balochistan but it is only one aspect of the problem. Indiscriminate entry of all and sundry from across the Afghan border to either former FATA and Balochistan has been fully exploited by the Indian agents by sending saboteurs galore to this country who have played an havoc with our law and order.
The common man of this country rightly expects urgent policy statement on the floor of parliament from the interior minister . He should explain at length as to what has the present government done hitherto in the matter. It is also the duty of the media men to grill him thoroughly on the issue as it directly impinges on the stability of this country.
