I received last night a good comment from Ahmad Qureshi, an evergreen TV analyst, on the first budget of the PTI government.
“The PTI government deserves congratulation for the TOUGHEST budget in Pakistan’s history, and for ending a 30-year-old disco party of the Pakistani elite. The only downslide is that this budget is SOFT on the RICH, and the total taxation focus is on the Mid-Low classes. But full marks to PM Imran Khan on the courage to hurt his own next election chances by taking the tough and potentially unpopular decisions the country needs (for a turnaround).”
I know that Ahmad Qureshi is not an economist. Nor am I. Nor is Imran Khan. But I am sure of one thing. Imran Khan has right intentions. His inspiration is right. His direction is right. And when the ferocious tides of challenges will recede, he is unlikely not to reap the right rewards.
As he said in his speech he doesn’t have a ‘magic wand’ to get things done through one order in the blink of an eye. All he can do (and has done) is to set the wheels moving and let the journey begin.
Those in his way are those who have for decades treated this country as a hunting ground for their unfathomable greed.
