There might be many reasons for the resurgence of various types of terrorism in the country, lately, like bomb explosions, firing on army convoys etc etc but the discontinuance of military courts might well be the main cause of it. As long as they were operational, there had been a considerable decrease in the incidence of terrorist activities in the country.
The prosecution branch of the police must hang its face in shame that a majority of its cases fail because of its incompetence to lead the evidence properly and convincingly in the trial courts. The Interior ministry must call on the carpet those responsible for it. What good are the police court inspectors and other responsible officials of the Prosecution branch charged with the task of presenting prosecution case effectively in the trial courts if they cannot deliver? Why can’t the police engage senior lawyers from the open market to plead its cases if its prosecution branch is not in a position to present its cases properly in the trial courts?
Those involved in mega corruption cases as well as in acts of terrorism pay heavy amount as legal fee to their defence counsels which run into crore of rupees and, more often than not, do succeed in getting away with their crime ——thanks to the legal nitpicking of their lawyers.
Since most of the leaders of the main opposition parties and some leaders of the ruling party too are involved in many mega corruption offences under trial in special military courts, they saw to it that parliament should give no further extension to the functioning of the military courts as they feared that they might meet their nemesis at their hands.
