Mian Nawaz Sharif has asked the nation to unite against any martial law. One wishes that he had also issued a clarion call to the nation to stand up and present a united front to the self-proclaimed divine right of the ruling families to put up their princes and princesses for successorship to the throne.
Prince Bilawal Zardari Bhutto is already the front-runner in this race. In the Friday issue of THE NEWS, there is a picture on the front page, of Prince Bilawal Zardari Bhutto giving his royal audience to the two princes of the Gilani dynasty—–Syed Abdul Qadir and Syed Ali Musa. It is a message to the nation that there is no dearth of genuine royalty in the country.
This message is shared very strongly by the ‘ Sharif family’ which has already fielded His Royal Highness Hamza Shahbaz and Her Royal Highness Maryam Nawaz to join the battle for the Crown.
One reason Mian Nawaz Sharif may never want the nation to rise and unite against royalty is, that he can’t be expected to be instrumental himself in ruining the chance of Her Royal Highness Maryam Nawaz who has just recently sworn on her father’s honour that she would leave no stone unturned serving the nation.
As for the issue of the Martial Law, it may not be an option in the mind of those who have the authority to promulgate it. But in their minds may well be the fundamental question:
“Can this poor country survive the fathomless dreams of so many royal families and their princes and princesses?”
