Was it a mere co-incidence that an extension was given in the stay of Afghan refugees in Pakistan when the Afghan president was on a visit to this country? So many such extensions have been given in the past that one has really lost count of them !
Reciprocal visits on the part of Pakistani prime ministers and Afghan presidents to Kabul and Islamabad respectively have been going on for quite sometime during the past decade or so without breaking any ice. One hasn’t felt any change of heart on the part ofthe Afghan rulers who continue to nurse a soft corner for New Delhi and continue to play second fiddle to the Indians on every issue on which Pakistan and India are locked. The Afghan media continues to spread venom against us. Kabul continues to create obstacles in the early completion of the fencing of Pakistan border with Afghanistan instead of extending an helping hand in the matter. The predecessor of Ashraf Ghani too had visited us so many times but the inside story of his confabulations with our leaders was never made public and they didn’t yield any positive results.
The common man must be taken on board by the government as to what actually transpired between our prime minister and the Afghan president during the latter’s visit to Pakistan a few days back. Did he give us any guarantee that henceforth Afghanistan won’t allow India to use its soil for anti-Pakistan activities?Did he assure our premier that his country would not create any let and hindrance and obstacles in the way of fencing of the Durand Line ?If these important issues weren’t discussed why on earth did he visit us? Needless to add for the moment these are the only two issues which are bone of contention between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
