Rahul Gandhi is bent upon resigning from the president ship of Indian Congress party as he considers himself responsible for his party’ s debacle in the recently held general elections in India but his party’s chieftains want him to continue. What a contrast with the heads of our political parties who shamefacedly carry on with their job even after their political parties are routed in the polls. They leave the command of their parties only after their number is up.
I am reminded here of a very interesting anecdote. In the not-too-distant past a railway accident in India had left many passengers killed. The then Indian minister for railways accepting responsibility for it resigned at once.Soon after that accident a similar railway accident occurred in Pakistan also in which a number of passengers had died. When a newsman posed a question to the then railway minister of this country whether he too following in the footsteps of his Indian counterpart would resign as railway minister he replied that I am a Muslim and a Muslim is not supposed to follow any precedent set up by a Hindu.
It goes without saying that most of the leaders in this country heading political parties consider their parties as their fiefdom in which there is no room for the outsider to take over the party once they kick the bucket or they are removed from their position. The heads of almost all political parties have very cunningly made their next of kin as their second-in-command who automatically take over the party should the circumstances demand so.
