By and large the results of the world cricket cup tournament are strictly in accordance with the prognosis made by the cricket pundits well before the start of this competition that it would be won by anyone among India, Australia, New Zealand and England. Pakistan’s name was neither here nor there. The former Australian captain Ricky Ponting said it all during the course of the tournament that Pakistani team was such an unpredictable team that it can beat the best cricket team of the world but it can also be got beaten by a team much weaker than it. Ponting was proved right.

The aged senior players would be calling it a day. Shoaib Malik, Hafeez and some others in their age group must hang their gloves thus making room for young talented cricketers waiting in the wings to come forward. Sarfaraz might be a good wicket keeper but he isn’t made of captain’s material. We need a skipper like Kohli who should lead from the front and is strong enough like Kardar to instil discipline among the team members.
The performance of cricket teams of the West Indies, South Africa and Sri Lanka too left much to be desired. One cannot blame Afghanistan’s cricket team because it is still in its salad days. Bangla Desh did reasonably well but luck never smiled on it this time round. Curtain would be drawn on many international players during the next few days. We might have seen their last performance already.
