Gamekeepers shouldn’t be poachers. If they would be allowed to become so, then surely something is rotten in the state of Denmark. As far as our police is concerned, let us admit there is small choice in the rotten apples .The tribal area of this country is notorious for aerial firing .Since Arms Act has not been physically enforced in the former FATA despite the fact that it is applicable there the tribesmen often take the liberty with it. It is customary on their part to indulge in aerial firing at a drop of a hat to express their joy whenever a baby boy is born in a family or on the occasion of marriage ceremony.
When these people started shifting and settling in the revenue districts of the country over the years they also carried along with them their traditions and habits to the settled areas of the country. Small wonder indulgence in aerial firing by them for expressing their rejoice on the arrival of a new kid in their family or on the occasion of marriage ceremony has been the order of day in the cities where they dwell. This tradition has spread like a viral disease now among the other inhabitants of the revenue districts also. Even the policemen whose job it is to implement Arms Act in their bailiwick violate it with impunity. Recently the inhabitants of the federal capital were flabbergasted when they noticed aerial firing from the house of a policeman on the occasion of the marriage ceremony of his son. It is rumoured that though a case has been registered under the relevant law against the defaulters on the order of the police chief of the city but no arrest has been made. Will the police higher-ups clarify the position? It goes without saying that the common man takes heart from such open violation of law on the part of those whose job it is to implement it. If the gamekeepers would be allowed to become poacher then God be with us.
