Heaven is not going to fall if the opposition succeed in electing new chairman of the senate so why the hell did some PTI senators call on the JUI(F) chief for dissuading him not to move a no-confidence motion against the senate chairman Sadiq Sanjrani? One can only laugh at the those senators who apprehend that in case the Senate chairman becomes the acting president in the absence from the country of President Arif Alvi he can give a reprieve to all those corrupt politicians who are behind bars under corruption cases, therefore, election of a senate chairman belonging to the opposition is not desirable. Don’t they know that unless the PM requests the president so such thing can happen . Their apprehension that if Senate is headed by a person not belonging to their party their bills won’t be passed is equally absurd and fallacious. Little did they know that the senate cannot obstruct the passage of any bill permanently because if twice any bill passed by the NA is rejected by the senate it automatically stands passed . Sheikh Rashid says those PTI leaders who had met the JUI(F) chief in this connection have been called on the carpet by the PTI’s high command which is fair enough.
There is much meat in the argument of Ahmad Raza Qasuri that like the American system of government Pakistan should have more provinces, 14 in number, to be precise. He wants the KPK, Balochistan, Panjab and Sindh to be split into 3, 3, 5 and 3 provinces respectively . If Gilgit and Baltistan is added to it, the federation can have 15 provinces in all. To substantiate his viewpoint he says till 1955 Sind had 13 provinces . Needless to say parliamentary democracy in the present form hasn’t solved problems of the masses in the past nor is it going to solve them in future. There is certainly a need of a new contract between the rulers and the ruled.
