There is no love lost between the PPP and Nawaz League. Momentarily, they do come close to each other when the situation so demands and when their leadership thinks that their political survival lies in joining hands rather than taking up the cudgels against each other. Their modus operandi for remaining in the citadel of power has always been the same:use power for enhancing your wealth and then use it for remaining in the citadel of power. Both are firm believers in the dynastic politics and both have trained their next of kin to take over the reins of power within their party in case their number is up. The concept of dynastic politics has rubbed off on the lesser political parties also, including, some of the religo-political parties and their leadership has also groomed their successors belonging to their family who are ready to step into the shoes of the heads of these parties in case of their demise. Who says monarchy has finished in the world. It is very much there though its form has changed. The word monarchy has been replaced by the word of parliamentary democracy in which political parties play the game of power. The practitioners of parliamentary democracy talk of democratic values but, in point of fact, the political heads of the political parties that run the show are worse than fascists and dictators. Dissent isn’t allowed and any political worker who says anything which grate on the party’ chief is shown the door. It is strange that the heads of these political parties don’t find persons outside their family circle fit and worthy enough to run the show. What is strange and not understandable is that the old old party workers who are grey-haired and who have gone long in the tooth feel no qualms in serving under ‘crown princes’ who are still wet behind the ears. Can there be more shame-faced ness than this?
