LAHORE, August 21: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday has been produced before accountability court judge Naeem Arshad in Chaudhry Sugar Mills reference after her 12-day physical remand expired.
According to details, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has also presented managing director at Sharif Group of Industries and former prime minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif’s nephew Yousaf Abbas Sharif before the court.
During the hearing, NAB Prosecutor Hafiz Asadullah submitted a report in the court and told that Saeed Saif Bin Jabbar Asadi had transferred 94 lac shares to Maryam Nawaz in 2008 whereas she further transferred 70 lac shares to Yousaf Abbas in 2019.
Meanwhile, Maryam’s lawyer said that holding numerous investigations into one allegation is against the law and Constitution.
Subsequently, the court has approved 14-day physical remand of Maryam Nawaz and Yousaf Abbas and directed to re-appear them on September 4.
Ahead of Wednesday’s court appearance, strict security arrangements were made. Containers and barbed wires were used to close routes towards the judicial complex and a large contingent of female police was stationed inside and outside the court.
Various PML-N leaders also arrived at the accountability court including Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan, Hina Pervez Butt, Saiful Malook Khokhar, Chaudhry Muhammad Barjees Tahir, Senator Parvaiz Rasheed, Muhammad Zubair Umar, Nehal Hashmi and Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan.
Maryam’s husband retired Capt Mohammad Safdar Awan and son Junaid Safdar were also in the courtroom.
On the occasion, a scuffle erupted between police personnel and PML-N workers after which, SP City ordered to arrest those who tried to enter the court from judges gate. Captain (retd) Safdar also stepped into the clash and grabbed police officers’ sticks. -Sabah
