George Orwell once said:
“The object of terrorism is terrorism. The object of oppression is oppression. The object of torture is torture. The object of murder is murder. The object of power is power. Now do you begin to understand me?”
In occupied Kashmir, the brutal acts of the Indian security forces are ongoing but nobody knows when and how this will end. The Indian government claims that Kashmir is returning to normalcy day by day however the ground realities prove otherwise. The majority of Kashmiris are annoyed after the BJP government’s removal of Article 35-A. The view of the common Kashmiriis that the Modi government have cheated on them. An important point is that the majority of the Kashmiri population want a peaceful settlement to the Kashmir dispute. They have no desire for lawlessness in their home region and hope that sense will now prevail between the stake holders and serious negotiations will commence.
On New Delhi’s side,Modi is still not ready to talk, believing that he and his party BJP will, sooner or later, overcome the ongoing crisis.
International media is continuously reporting the ground realitiesin the occupied valley: For example, the detainment of about 3000 people with political leaders and businessmen amongst those arrested. Many of these people have beendetainedoutsideSrinagar, thus, their loved onesdo not know that they have been arrested.
On Monday, theIndian Supreme Court asked thegovernment to restore normalcy in Kashmir .On the other hand , the Indian national security advisors havesaid a few days ago that normalcy in Kashmir can be restored if Pakistan starts behaving and stops indulging in subversive propaganda.
On Wednesday, The Prime Minister Imran khan has warned that the person who crosses the border to fight against the Indians in Kashmir is an enemy of Kashmir.
Moreover, the Prime Minister also pointed out that the ongoing situation in Kashmir has no connection to Pakistan and that India is solely to blame for the turmoil there.
Undoubtedly, the situation has put the peace of South Asia at risk. Prime Minister Imran Khan has frequently said that the United Nations, OIC, EU and the United states must play their role in settling theKashmir issue between the two neighboring countries. The truth is that Islamabad wants to deescalate tension with his neighboring country. Moreover, the majority of Pakistan’sprominent political partieswant peace with India. Pakistani politicians believe that, in order to overcome all major problems with neighboring countries, we must first establish cordial relations with them.PPP, PML-N and now the PTI government have openly offered talks with India but as usual the Indian response is still not positive. On March 2019,after 40 years, both India and Pakistan have attackedeach other’s territory. In that conflict, observers have shownconcern that it is quite possible that the conflict may have escalated. However, thankfully, the issue was deescalated due to the joint efforts of the International community.
