The way federal cabinet and some provincial cabinets are being bloated by stuffing them with advisors and consultants galore isn’t liked by the taxpayers who consider them as a parasite on the national kitty. The financial constraints demanded that more than one ministry should have been assigned to every minister as we are confronted with an abnormal situation which calls for as much parsimony as possible in this respect .
There is a need for more man’s hours in government departments in particular for which rehashing of holiday calendar is essential. Even a cursory glance at the list of annual holidays which are enjoyed by the government functionaries reveal that out of 365 days annually we don’t work for about 110 days. Why should we be not working for two days in a week?On this score alone we don’t work for 96 days every year. Why can’t we declare Saturday as a working day. This decision alone will provide us with 48 working days in government offices every year.
Two-day weekly off is justified in only those countries where there is economic prosperity. In a country like ours where we are struggling to find our feet it is criminal not to work for two days every week. Likewise, on other occasions where two days leave is being given every year for observance or celebrations of various religious occasions only one day off be allowed. In point of fact we should be working two hours extra to commemorate various religious festivals and on the birthday or death anniversaries of many notable personalities instead of not working at all on these days.
