ISLAMABAD, September 25: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday approved an inquiry against Leader of Opposition in National Assembly and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif over allegations of illegal allotment of Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) land.
The approval was given in the NAB’s Executive Board meeting chaired by anti-graft watchdog Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal.
According to the declaration of the meeting, the executive board while overall approving seven inquiries and five investigations, decided to file a corruption reference against former Balochistan chief minister Nawab Aslam Khan Raisani.
The executive board has also approved filing of reference against Dr Amjad in Eden Housing Scandal. He is accused of a fraud of Rs25 billion in the name of the housing society.
The meeting has also approved inquiries against former deputy speaker Punjab assembly Sher Ali Gorchani.
Meanwhile on the Chairman NAB Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal reiterated to recover the money looted through corruption. He said that corruption was the main hurdle in progress and prosperity of the country and bureau was utilizing all available resources to punish the corrupt.
On the occasion, he said that NAB has so far recovered record Rs 71 billion from the corrupt and deposited into the national exchequer in last 22 months, besides filing 600 corruption references in various accountability courts.
Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal reiterated his firm resolve of taking mega corruption cases into logical conclusion was top most priority of NAB and bureau was pursuing the policy of ‘Accountability for All’ by eliminating the menace of corruption from the country and recovering the looted money from the corrupt.
He said that the graft-buster body is strictly following the accountability for all policy while he added that as many as 59 percents of Pakistani expressed trust on the NAB in a survey conducted by the Gallup and Gillani. The Chairman NAB directed in the course of the meeting that inquiries and investigations be completed on time.-Sabah
