It is good that the prime minister is going to visit China soon. It goes without saying that of all the countries , China, perhaps, is the only country which has stood with us through thick and thin. The common man in both these countries love each other. What is remarkable is the fact that the the friendship between these two countries has grown with the passage of time.
The PM must take an initiative and visit Moscow also. There is a need of mending fences with Russia also . Let us admit that in the past the successive governments, barring , of course, Z. A. Bhutto’s government, did not pay proper attention to improving links with Moscow. Time has certainly come when we repair the damage and cultivate with Moscow also. Washington would try to create a wedge between our relations with these two important neighbours of ours and we should be careful that it doesn’t succeed in its evil designs. The PM should be careful about a strong pro-American lobby in the corridors of power in this country which has always been dancing to the tune of Washington and which doesn’t want a tilt of Pakistan’s foreign policy to China or Russia.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi has been doing an excellent job but he has only one pair of hands. He certainly needs a minister for state in his ministry who should be his second-in-command and who should assist him not only on Kashmir affairs but he should be assigned the task of creating a politicalatmosphere by which a military and economic bloc comprising Russia, Pakistan, China , Turkey and Iran comes into being . Effort needs to be made to make the Central Asian countries join this bloc too.
