It is heartening to note that the prime minister will try his hand for developing rapprochement between Tehran and Riyadh which is certainly the need of the hour. In case these two hostile countries hit it off as a result of his mediation he will have done a great job in uniting Muslim ummah. There is no love lost between Persia and Saudi Arabia since ages. They were at daggers drawn even before the advent of Islam.
As a result of the present animosity between them which is mainly due to the different religious sects which they follow, tension prevails among the adherents of these sects which often results in mutual bickering leading to the armed clashes between them also in which invaluable lives are lost. The enemies of Islam too get an opportunity to fish in the troubled waters.
Imran Khan would be doing a great service if he succeeds in making them agree that let bygones be bygones and that from now onwards they would start on a clean slate. Both Iran and Saudi Arabia should realise that the only the anti-Islamic forces benefit from their animosity and it also drives a wedge in the unity among the Muslim world which is the crying need of the hour.
India and Israel would never like to see the efforts of our prime minister coming to fruition. One is also not sure whether the strong Jewish lobby inside the U. S would allow
the American president to support the end of rift between Iran and Saudi Arabia. Let us hope saner counsel will prevail and both the Iranian and Saudi leadership would rise to the occasion and embrace each other in the larger interest of the Muslim world.
