The ruling alliance has been in the law-making mode ever since it took control of the nation’s destiny. Only finding new ways of defying the Judiciary and its judgements has been placed above law-making in its priorities. A new bill is going to find the floor of the National Assembly which if passed as a law will provide constitutional protection to the holders of the dual nationality. It will also provide immunity to the honourable ministers and provincial chief ministers (etc) against all contempt of court proceedings. The thought of providing security to the members of the ruling ‘junta’ against the cases of graft, bribery, theft, plunder and other such ‘routine’ offenses has not yet entered the minds of those who are sitting at the helm of affairs, and making plans to facilitate the perpetuation of their power. But if Mian Nawaz Sharif and his party, despite their declared war on the rulers of Islamabad, continue to provide their ‘undeclared support’ to the avowed guardians of the Status Quo the time may soon come when everybody in the governing setup will be given constitutional protection against all acts of plunder graft and fraud. Probably a clause may be regarded as necessary to be incorporated in the constitution that will empower the honourable members of the parliament — particularly those in government … to enhance their fortunes to any level they regard necessary for meeting the demands and requirements of the cause of serving the people, and of ensuring their re-election as people’s representatives.
Let us not rule out the possibility that it may well be in the minds of the guardians of this order and this setup, that laws should also be made to provide supremacy to the Parliament (of the People’s representatives ) over even the Divine Laws as laid out in the Holy Quran. After all God was never elected by the people (Naoozbillah)!
