There is no reason to rejoice that we have not been blacklisted under FATF. Our period under the grey listed has been extended by another 5 months which means its sword of Damocles would continue to dangle over our heads by February 2020. We can still be blacklisted if we didn’t comply with the conditions under FATF within the stipulated time limit. The government must ensure that by coming February we complete the actions required from us by the world community.
What a pity that it is the Muslim world alone which is under strife in the world today. Turkey wants a buffer zone spread over an area of 32 kilometres in the north eastern part of Syria which it wants to make a safe zone for settling 36 lakh Syrians who have taken refuge in Turkey. Why should Damascus oppose this proposal of Turkey? Don’t the Syrians have right to settle in their own country? It is not understandable as to why Washington should insist that those Kurds be settled in this area who had supported it against the Daesh? At the moment the future of one crore twenty lac Syrians is in danger. The UN is showing indifference to their plight. It seems that now the U. S as well as Europe have lost interest in the Middle East and this can be gleaned from the statement of Donald Trump that military intervention in the ME by his predecessors was their biggest mistake. May one ask them as to who is going to rehabilitate over one crore displaced Syrians after killing millions of Syrians and ransacking their houses? Nobody has got a convincing answer to these questions. While one can differ from the Turkey’s military intervention in Syria but when feels that no country is willing to provide shelter to the displaced Syrians, Turkey’s above mentioned decision seems to be correct.
