Strange are the ways of a big segment of our electronic media.Even a cursory glance at its programmes telecast over the last couple of months would reveal as if this country has been facing only two problems—— the Azadi March and the illness of leaders of two big political parties of the country. About seventy percent TV coverage has been given by them to these two issues, whereas, the fact of the matter is that the biggest issue which this country has been facing is that of economy which has given birth to other problems like unemployment ,poverty and increase in the incidence of crime. Strangely enough, the electronic media has not been spotlighting these issues to the extent they needed proper projection.
Almost all the political parties have been hijacked by the filthy rich mafias .Despondency runs among the masses over the failure of the political parties to deliver and this frustration is similar to the one shown by the common Lebanese and the Chileans against their political governments for the same reasons in their recent public protest demonstrations Our electronic media should have spotlighted the footage of the public protest demonstrations of the people of these two countries for the sake of the man in the street in this country because if he has to improve his economic lot he will have to show the door to all those persons and parties which have been ruling the roost in the country for the last 40 years or so during which they only lined their own pockets and seldom took undertook any developmental project aimed at the amelioration of the lot of the teeming millions of the country. What good is democracy or for that matter a parliamentary democracy if it cannot provide bread and butter to the common man and cater for his basic needs for keeping his body and soul together..
