ISLAMABAD, November 8: The Government of Balochistan in collaboration with Food and Agriculture Organization (UNO) & University of Balochistan, Quetta, and Center for Global & Strategic Studies (CGSS), Islamabad organized an International Conference on “Livestock in Balochistan Prospects and Opportunities” on 8th November 2019 at Marriott Hotel, Islamabad.
His Excellency Jam Kamal Khan – Chief Minister Balochistan was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The Conference had the participation of distinguished guest speakers and experts of the subject. The guest speakers who delivered speeches during the conference included:
a. His Excellency Jam Kamal Khan – Chief Minister Balochistan.
b. Captain Fazeel Asghar (Retd)-Chief Secretary Balochistan.
c. Mr. Mohammad Awais Khan, ITC Representative of Pakistan.
d. Mr.Mumtaz Khan Manais, Former Minister Livestock and Dairy Development, Punjab.
e. His Excellency Mr. M Masud Zamani -Representative from the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran
f. His Excellency Dr Wang Zhihua – Minister Counsellor (Economic and Commercial) Embassy of the People’s Republic of China.
g. Mr Brek Betlay- Deputy Head Commissioner from the Australian High Commission
h. Ms. Roshan Khursheed Bharucha- Chairwomen PPAF, Former Minister and Senator.
i. Mr. Ijaz Sanjrani- Special Assistant to Chief Minister, Government of Balochistan.
His Excellency Chief Minister Balochistan Jam Kamal, He said that Balochistan is a land of opportunities and explained how the livestock industry has given various incentives related to the industry and innovations regarding livestock, promoting the participation of farmers, mill owners and various industries related to Livestock. He mentioned that Pakistan possesses amazing potential to prosper and Balochistan has been a key contributor in promoting the Livestock industry.
Captain Fazeel Asghar (Retd) – Chief Secretary Balochistan. He welcomed the chief guest and audience, presented a brief introduction of Balochistan highlighting the important aspects of the entire region. He elaborated that this conference is the first step towards the livestock Expo which is going to be held in Balochistan in coming days.
Mr Mohammad Awais Khan, ITC Representative of Pakistan, mentioned about the UN’s mission to support the Balochistan initiative to attain the sustainable goals of UN. He explained the expected outcomes of policies which will enhance the livestock industry in Balochistan. Mentioning the start of the project and the recent project implications.He concluded by mentioning the collaboration of UN with the government of Balochistan.
Mr. Mumtaz Mohammad Khan Manais, Former Minister Livestock and Dairy Development, Punjab started his speech with a thoughtful poetic verse. He spoke about the importance of preserving Livestock and its ties with the region of Balochistan and its people. He further elaborated that farmers must be strengthened as livestock and farming is one of the main factors in eradicating poverty and generating income.
Representative from the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Pakistan, His Excellency M Masud Zamani shared his thoughts explaining ties of Iran with Pakistan and the joint initiatives taken in the Livestock industry of Pakistan.
Minister Counsellor (Economic and Commercial) His Excellency Dr Wang Zhihua discussed the China-Pakistan joint cooperation for regional development and international market access to Pakistan.
Ms Roshan Khursheed Bharucha- Chairwoman PPAF, Former Minister and Senator, stressed on the importance of women and highlighted their role in the livestock industry of Pakistan.
Mr Brek Betlay- Deputy Head commission from the Australian High Commission to Pakistan commented about the global ranking of Australia in the Livestock industry and emphasized about the quality measures taken by Australia to improve the industry in Pakistan.
The conference concluded with an end note from Mr. Ijaz Sanjrani- Special Assistant to Chief Minister, Government of Balochistan. He mentioned the importance of farmers in boosting the country’s economy resulting in the prosperity of Pakistan. Among the eminent guests who graced the conference with their presence were, ” Haji Mittha Khan- Minister Livestock Balochistan ” Ms Zubaida Jalal- Federal Minister of Defence Production ” Mr Farrukh Toirov- Deputy FAO Representative “Mr Mohammad Khan Achakzai- Former Governor  ” Jahanzaib Jamaldini- Senator  Approximately 250 people including experts, diplomates and representatives of public and private sector attended the Conference.
