There are pye-dogs galore in Sind and it seems that the Sind government is helpless to eliminate them. Cases of dog-bites are on the increase by the day. The victims of dog bites are dying because of the absence of anti-rabies vaccine in the province’s hospitals. It is one of the basic responsibility of Municipal institutions to keep a check on the pye-dogs by eliminating them under a systematic programme—–a duty which is not being performed by them since long. It is a criminal negligence on the part of the provincial health department that it is not keeping its hospitals in the province well stocked with the anti-rabies vaccine round the year. More often than not whenever the dog bite victims are taken to the hospital the doctors ask them to buy anti- rabies vaccine from the open market as they don’t have this vaccine with them. It is in the evidence that many victims of dog bites cannot buy the vaccine from open market as their pocket doesn’t allow them and they suffer UN silence.
It is a pity that the federal government and the provincial government of Sind have been indulging in the blame game since long over this issue instead of coordinating with each other and solving the problem. The federal government has been accusing Sind government of negligence in the matter while the latter has been accusing the former of not supplying the hospitals of the province with the required quantity of the anti-rabies vaccine. It is about time that realising the gravity of the situation the Sind government should always keep its hospitals sufficiently equipped with the vaccine required for injecting in the bodies of the dog bite-victims so that Invaluable lives are not lost.
