The sit-ins of Maulana Fazlur Rehman throughout the country continue unabated. Almost all the opposition parties desire general elections next year because in their own wisdom they think that they have a fair chance of entering into the corridors of power if they are held soon. On the other hand Imran Khan has been lambasting the corrupt politicians who had ruled the roost in this country during the past thirty years. Sometimes one gets the impression as if history is repeating itself. In the 1970 general elections Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was alone on one side and the entire leading opposition political leaders on the other but he had single-handedly routed them in the general elections.
Imran is fortunate that most of the leading political leaders who are opposing him are involved from head to feet in mega corruption cases otherwise his ministers have a lot to live down also. The performance of many of his cabinet ministers is also not satisfactory. The common man has been giving him allowance by not heeding to the protest calls of the opposition for two main reasons. In their wisdom at the moment there is no leader in the opposition cadres worthy enough to replace him and because it is too early in the day to sit in judgement over the performance of the present government.
A good political decision taken at the wrong time doesn’t yield positive result. To many a political observer, it was wrong on the part of the JUI(F)to stage sit-in last October. It should have waited till next November and studied the ramifications of next annual budget.
