Foreign funding as well as Internal funding of any political party by unscrupulous persons or mafias is despicable. This is a murky business and it very rightly raises the eyebrows of all those who want that a clean and transparent democratic system should take roots in the countryThe Chief Election Commissioner should not have dragged its feet over this issue for such a long time and should have given his decision in the matter on any petition that might be pending in the matter with him. Now when he is towards the fag end of his stint as CEC he is being pressurised by some politicians to hand down his verdict on the petitions in the matter which are pending with him. It goes without saying that many parvenus who come into big money by indulging in illegalities want to enter into the political corridors and for that aim in view they heavily fund political parties of their choice in order to endear themselves to the head of these parties. Their ultimate aim is that in the general elections the head of the political party which they have funded would be obliged to give them party ticket either of national or provincial assembly or for the senate thus enabling them to get into the corridors of power. There is no denying the fact that more often than not ninety percent of such persons do get into the assemblies.
It is a pity that due attention hasn’t been given by the EC towards this matter and the unscrupulous element has been getting into parliament quite often.
Experience shows us that in the neighbouring India the EC there has been conducting general elections quite fairly during the past couple of years and all political parties whether they win or lose the elections now no longer complain ofgerrymandering. Cant we replicate that system?, the common man asks.
