Camera’s eye doesn’t tell lies. The joint photo of opposition leaders taken after the culmination of the APC on 26th November 2019 in Islamabad and carried by almost all leading newspapers of the country said it all. Frustration and tiredness were writ large on every face and they could not give a convincing account of their failure in the recent sit-in as well as their future program. It seems they had nothing to say except to keep the political pot boiling by holding corner meetings in various cities. Their tragedy is that many of their leaders are involved in mega corruption cases from top to bottom and they don’t have sufficient time to devote to street politics. The rulers should thank their stars that they don’t have a strong and viable opposition to fight with. If the situation didn’t improve soon the opposition might well be on the road once again and luck does not smile always on the rulers.
It is now established that the JUI(F) chief was telling porkies about the so-called assurance given to him by Chaudri Pervez Elahi after which he called off his sit-in in Islamabad. What was that assurance which prompted him to pack up and leave the federal capital alongwith his cronies? Nobody knows. Maulana Fazlur Rehman knows that he stands no chance to bounce back in country’s politics as long as Imran Khan is in the saddle and the leadership of both the PPP and Nawaz League too realise this .
Altaf Hussain has been showing his true colours, lately. His allegiance to India stands established now beyond a reasonable doubt. Will Nawaz Sharif return or would he stay back in London as long as Imran is in power? This is the question being debated in the chattering classes of Islamabad.
