  • Directs for the rehabilitation of quake-hit building of historic Jahanzeb College, Swat

PESHAWAR, December 22: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak has ordered for the rehabilitation of earthquake-hit building of historic Jahanzab College, Swat and initiate construction of new jail in Swat besides accelerating the pace of work on under construction Swat hospital. He issued these orders while meeting with a representative delegation from Swat district led by the Parliamentary Secretary for Anti-Corruption and the Provincial Inspection Team, at the Chief Minister Secretariat today.Responding to the demands presented by Dr. Haider Ali on this occasion, the Chief Minister clarified that since the Jahanzeb College was built in 1952, therefore, it cannot be declared as national heritage under the law as it has not yet completed 100 years of construction. He, however, assured that new building would be constructed for the college at the same site and design if the seismic center of the Engineering University does not declare the damaged building dangerous.
He informed the delegation that funds for improvement of all roads of Swat city and Murghazar road had already been released and work on these roads was underway. On a complaint about deteriorating condition of certain roads built during the previous regime, Pervez Khattak regretted that the commission culture largely practiced by the previous rulers was responsible for such condition of the roads and government buildings they had pocketed the public money that should have been spent on development projects. He, however, said that all such undesirable practices had been done away with in present PTI-led government which would ensure durability of the civil works.
