It is heartening to note that at long last after repeated set backs Pakistan finally won the second test in Karachi last week by beating Sri Lanka with a big margin and understandably the selectors and the coaches heaved a sigh of relief and are rejoicing over this victory but there should be no room for complacency as one swallow doesn’t make a summer. Our team had not performed well against the Aussies in their tour of the Down Under in the recent past for which it got a lot of flak from the cricket enthusiasts as well as cricket observors. Pakistani cricketers would have to give repeat performances in the coming matches at the international level to prove that their win against Sri Lanka wasn’t a fluke victory .
Abid Ali has proved his mettle and so has Naseem Shah and Shaheen Shah. Babar Azam has once again shown his consistency. Naseem and Shaheen are pacemen and if they are groomed properly they can become a lethal team of seamers like Waseem Akram and Waqar Younas. Abid Ali is a useful addition in the batting line of our team which already comprises dashing openers like Fakhr and Imamul Haque. Let us hope the selectors would give an opportunity to Fawad Alam also as he has been allegedly ignored by the selectors for a long time despite the fact that he is a solid batsman .
The future of our team is by no means bleak. All the selectors and coaches have to do is to go the whole hog in training it properly and also guarding it from the unscrupulous element which in the near past spoiled the career of Mohammad Asif, Mohammad Amir by involving them in vices like match fixing and spot fixing.
Batsmen like Shaan Masood and Haris Sohail can be rotated in the middle line of our batting . All rounders like Shadaab and Yasir Shah on their day can prove very useful for the team.
