Many people in this country who have gone long in the tooth and who have been witness to the British rule in this country often sardonically remark that this country should be handed over to the Brits as they alone know how to right its wrongs.
The writ of the state is simply non_existent today. Mafias rule the roost everywhere. Corruption is so rampant that even for getting a rightful thing done in government offices one has to grease the palm of the concernced government functionary. This country is marred by social evils like graft, kickbacks, commissions , bribery, nepotism , smuggling, hoarding, blackmarketing and injustice which are writ large on its social landscape. Politics has a become the most profitable business in the country. The filthy rich invest in the political parties which in their view are likely to fare better at the hustings by funding them and they in turn are then rewarded party tickets for the national and provincial assemblies as well as Senate too. Crores of rupees are placed at their disposal every year by the government as developmental funds for carrying out developmental works in their respective constituencies and insiders know half of these funds go to the pockets of parliamentarians. The rulers of this country have been leading the people up the garden path by promising them at the hustings that they would bridge the gap between the haves and haves _not only to get their votes and enter into the citadel of power. The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer.
Things weren’t as bad as they were today even upto a couple of years after the creation of this country. The rot seems to have set in after the demise of the first prime minister of this country. Had he lived for another 10 to 15 years like his counterpart, Nehru in India, he would have plugged all the holes and provided a solid base for the development of the new country. The country is heading towards s revolution. Mark my words.
