The speech of Bilawal in Rawalpindi on the death anniversary of his mother on 27 th of last month was without any lustre. Though the old comrades in his party have been trying very hard to build his image as a strong contender for the coveted assignment of the prime ministership of this country in future but hitherto they have not been able to succeed in their mission and there are a variety of reasons behind it. First, the PPP has a lot to live down. It has been in power more than once in the centre and it has been ruling Sindh for decades now without any internegum. This handicap rubs off on Bilawal also. The common man has not felt an iota of difference between what was before its ascent to power and after its long rule in the citadel of power.
Conditions in Sindh which has been the power base of this party for quite long now are as bad or rather worse than the conditions when it wasn’t in power. The main plank of this party up till now has been to paint the present rulers of the country as a bunch of incompetent persons not capable enough to solve the people’s problems but they haven’t been able uptill now to produce any blueprint showing to the people as to how are they going to solve the problems being faced by the country if they come to power. Criticism for the sake of criticism is the most easiest thing in the world.
Most of the leadership of the PPP stands discredited in the eyes of the common man like the leaders of other political parties who have been ruling the roost since 1980. Thirty years in power is a fairly long period to deliver. It is precisely for this reason that the common man has been taking with a pinch of salt their vitupurations against the present rulers to whom they want to give some more point to make good on their promises with the electorate.
