While there were many reasons for the creation of Bangla Desh which were fully exploited by the forces hostile to this country for rending it asunder, let us admit that one of them was the sense of deprivation among our Bengali brethren. They in their own wisdom thought that they were being economically exploited by another province of the country. They didn’t approve of the parity formula enunciated in the 1956 constitution in their heart of hearts which they thought to be detrimental to their economic interest
There are many who thought that our politicians would take s lesson after the East Pakistan debacle of 1971 and would not repeat the same mistakes but it seems that like the Bourbons they have learnt nothing and forgotten nothing.
A case in point is Balochistan which is the largest province of the country . One of the former government had announced with a lot of fanfare a gigantic developmental package under the title of Aghaaz_Haqooq_Balochistan package It had over 61 points but action on only 15 of them was taken and that too half_heartedly The government that came to power on its heel took least interest in pursuing it vigorously as it belonged to another political party which was at daggers with the political party whose government had initiated this package which is unfortunate to say the least.
Let us hope that the present rulers would see to it that the local Balochis and Pusthoons and other nationalities of the province are made stake holders in every developmental activity that is generated by the CPEC. The point is that a lion’s share of the economic benefits that accrue from CPEC should go to Balochistan.
