It seems Sindh is a difficult place for the IGPs to work. The present IGP Sindh Kalim Imam too has fallen foul of PPP government there. In the not_too_distant past, one IGP by the name of Mr Khawaja had been booted out of the province after he incurred the wrath of the chief minister Sindh whom he did not see eye to eye with on many administrative issues and who was fed up with too much political interference in his work. Obviously, when the politicians start meddling in the work of police the incidence of crime goes up instead of coming down . The civil servants are perplexed . Should they believe the Founder of the Nation who had directed them in unambiguous words that they are not supposed to carry out any illegal fiat of any sitting government which is transitory in nature and they should follow ln letter and spirit the law of the land as they are servants of the state and not of any other authority
It is an open secret that the civil service, including the police, stand highly politicised today as never before. Every political government in the country wants the civil servants as well as the policemen to obey its orders irrespective of the fact whether they are legal or illegal. This being the position it becomes exceedingly difficult for an honest , straightforward and law abiding officer to function in such a working atmosphere. Though the provincial ministers of Sindh are giving the impression that the IGP has failed to deliver therefore Sindh government wants his transfer but this is one side of the story and , therefore, it cannot be taken without a pinch of salt. Experience of hindsight tells us that in nine out of ten such like cases whenever a political government in this country had come across with a government functionary who cared more for the law of the land instead of its any illegal fiat he was never tolerated by the powers that be and was soon got rid of. It would be a miracle if Kali.
