Prince Harry has reportedly said he doesn’t want to spend his life on the taxpayers’ money and want to raise his family on his own earnings. He wants to shift to some other country along with his wife to work there and earn his livelihood. In other words he is fed up with a regimented life and wants to spend his days in this world on his own terms. In the not-too-distant past the uncle of Queen Elizabeth too had discarded the King’s title for marrying a commoner American widow. Prince Harry’s mother too didn’t see eye to eye with many traditions of British monarchy.
The attitude of Harry is in sharp contrast to the habits of princes and kings of some other left over monarchies which are fastly disappearing and before long they might pass into history. We have heard our elders saying that all monarchies would one day disappear barring the British monarchy which would outlast all of them, the reason being that in Britain the common man enjoys more clout than the British monarch.
The Brits are very farsighted people. They realise that it is the institution of monarchy which has stitched together four different types of people living in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. The queen or the king is a symbol of their unity. Finishing monarchy would mean dismemberment of Britain.
Unlike the British monarchy, the other few surviving monarchies of the world are notorious for their lavish living and extravagant style of life and the anger of the common man in their countries against the members of the palace is growing by the day. Time is not far off when they would disappear like the morning mist.
