Time was when Rome was the favourite haunting place for the deposed kings and corrupt rulers who fled from their country in order to escape the wrath of their countrymen. Some of them did find it convenient to settle in England after getting political asylum there.
Time has changed. These days Dubai has become a favourite place for the filthy rich to invest in as no question is asked from the investor as to the source of his money which he wants to invest and whether or not he has paid the required taxes on it to his government. That is the precise reason why the monied people have been flocking to Dubai to buy property there as well to invest their money, mostly ill_gotten, in various business enterprises.
Dubai has every modern Civic amenity one could think of. Quality schools and colleges , hospitals , sports facilities , night clubs, etc etc So attractive has it become that even the monetarily well_off people from Europe and elsewhere now want to spend their vacation in this desert resort.
A news report says that FIA has been asked to inquire about the credentials of 1225 Pakistani filthy rich persons who have invested heavily in Dubai. Let us admit that such inquiries had taken place so many times before also without any concrete result. The persons who have invested there are fairly well connected people and the arms of law cannot reach them easily. The fate of the present inquiry , therefore, won’t be much different from similar inquiries conducted in the past. It would be therefore an exercise in futility.
